Yesterday, the Ministry of Interior tweeted its followers in Qatar, telling them not to leave their car engines running when their car is unattended.
Don’t leave your vehicle in operating condition even if for few minutes as it is the main reason of vehiclethefts.

It’s a piece of advice many in cooler countries would find amusing, but as Qatar’s summer-hardened residents know, it’s very tempting to do when it’s 48c outside and you want your car to remain cool.
The Ministry of Interior followed up on the tweet today, saying:
Most of the car thefts happens in residential areas and in the Industrial Area. Please secure your vehicle properly.

The stolen cars used for trading or in criminal offence. So please secure your car and belongings properly.

We asked the Ministry of Interior for further details, but they were not in a position to give us any.
Have you had your car stolen in Qatar, or have you had belongings stolen from your car? Are Qatar’s residents too complacent about possible theft? Do you think this sort of crime is becoming more common here?
