Good news for the directionally challenged – Android phones now support Google Maps navigation.
That means getting turn-by-turn navigation on your phone without a separate GPS device, and potentially, less-confusing roads. Google Navigation even responds to voice command – in Arabic no less – so ideally doesn’t mean more accidents. How well it responds to said voice commands though, remains to be seen.
The newly-available app appear to require you to have a data connection, and only works on Android phones, but it is free, and is always being updated.
Google Maps’ coverage of landmarks and places in Qatar isn’t half-bad, in our experience, but if you can’t find a specific destination, try plugging in a nearby landmark.
When travelling in the neighborhood, you’ll also find it’s now available in: Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
