Nearly two weeks after a fire at Villaggio mall killed 19 loved ones, several families are mustering up the courage to bid them their final goodbyes.
That includes Martin and Jane Weekes, a New Zealand couple who lost their two-year-old triplets in the fire.
To commemorate their children, the couple shared stories about Lillie, Jackson, and Willsher Weekes, played songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and buried them in pint-sized coffins denoting their favorite colors – purple, blue and pink, NZ News reports.
According to the children’s grandfather, the Weekes had not heard the results of the fire investigation and were unsure if they would even return to Qatar after the funeral.
On Wednesday, Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, head of the adhoc committee investigating the fire, visited several victims’ families in Doha to discuss what happened – but those results have yet to be released to the public.
Meanwhile, Filipino media is reporting that the bodies of three of the teachers who were killed in the fire have been repatriated.
Maribel Orosco, Margie Yecyec and Julie Ann Soco were flown home this week so that their families could bury them.
Accompanying Orozco’s body were her husband Louie, brother Michael and eight-month-old child Ian, media reports said.
Doha News has also been told that the parents of Ye Mengling returned to China with their daughter’s body days after the fire.
