Al Rayyan’s Pediatric Emergency Center will begin implementing a new electronic patient record system on Sunday, June 5, HMC has announced.

It’s part of a wider rollout of electronic patient records across all hospitals and clinics run by Hamad Medical Corp. and the Primary Health Care Corporation in Qatar.

The launch of the electronic patient system at Hamad Hospital last month led to lengthy delays, with some patients reporting waits of up to nine hours at the emergency department.

Under the new system, healthcare workers will be able to view a patient’s medical history, prescription information, clinical notes and other information electronically across HMC and PHCC providers.

In a statement, HMC indicated Al Rayyan PEC could also experience delays:

“As this is such a large project, we expect that there will be a period of transition, during which, staff and patients will adjust to the new system. Staff will need to gather more information from patients in order to register them in the new system and this may mean that appointments take a little longer than usual. “

During the rollout, HMC suggests:

Al Rayyan PEC will be the last center to implement the new file system, HMC said.
