Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has grown by several new appointments following an organizational restructuring this week.
According to QNA, the Emir has promoted Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, a new position.
Since March, Al-Muraikhi has been serving as the Minister’s Assistant for Foreign Affairs, according to QNA.
He is almost 60 years old, and has been working for the foreign ministry for more than three decades (since 1984), its website states.
Al-Muraikhi previously served as Qatar’s ambassador to Italy, has worked in the Emiri Diwan and at the country’s missions in Houston and Washington.
Re-structuring
The Thursday appointment came a day after Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued Emiri decision No. 27 of 2016 regarding the re-organizational of the ministry.
Meanwhile, Al-Muraikhi’s superior, Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, has also made three of his own appointments:
- Rashid bin Khalida Al Khalifa, Advisor to the Foreign Minister;
- Dr. Ahmed bin Hassan Malallah, MOFA Secretary-General; and
- Saad bin Ali Saad Al Kharji, Head of the Foreign Minister’s office.
Sheikh Mohammed, who is 35 years old, became foreign minister in January, replacing Dr. Khalid Al Attiyah in a wider Cabinet shakeup.
Al Attiyah is now Qatar’s Minister of State for Defense.
