Customs prevents 53kg of hashish from being smuggled into Qatar

At attempt to smuggle some 53kg (117 lbs) of hashish into Qatar has been foiled, the director of the General Directorate of Customs said.

The traffickers, who were coming from Saudi Arabia and stopped at the Abu Samra border, had hidden the drugs inside the tires of a vehicle, the official said during an event organized by the Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs.

Gulf Times reports:

(The committee chairman) said there are sufficient schemes in place to secure all the ports of entry against any potential smuggling of narcotics.

He also affirmed Qatar is secure regarding drugs smuggling due to the efforts exerted by the staff involved in fighting smuggling.

Qatar’s Anti-Drug Enforcement director said in a statement last month that the country is becoming an increasingly popular transit point for drug smugglers.
