A Doha court has ordered a construction company and one of its foremen to pay QR5,000 in fines and QR200,000 in blood money after a laborer died in a building collapse, reports the Peninsula.
Although the newspaper is not specific about the date and details of the incident, it is likely to be related to last month’s building collapse in Madinat Khalifa South.
At the time, it was reported than an Asian labourer had been taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collapse of a wall on a neighbouring building plot.
Arabic daily Al Sharq now reports that he died shortly afterwards from multiple broken bones, including fractures to his skull and chest.
The unidentified construction company had begun work on the site without approval from the planning authorities, reports the Peninsula.
The company’s foreman admitted to the court that he hadn’t put adequate safety measures in place for the worker, who was drilling close to the building next door when a wall became unstable and collapsed on top of him.
Building collapses are unfortunately not rare events in Doha. Last year, the collapse of a building in Musheireb injured at least two men.
