Ashghal closing Kinana St. and ‘Garage’ St. to C-Ring for two weeks

    Starting Nov. 14, the heavily trafficked street near Toys ‘R’ Us and C-Ring Road will be closed for two weeks due to expansion plans.

    According to public works authority Ashghal, the closure of part of Al Kinana St. and Qatari bin Al Fujaah St. (also known as Garage St.) will extend for about 350m in both directions, as additional lanes are added to the area.

    It appears the parking in the area will be removed to make way for those lanes.

    The closure is part of phase four of the ongoing C-Ring Road overhaul, which also includes the addition of an extra lane in both directions from New Salata intersection (near the former Al Andalus petrol station) to Kinana intersection (just before La Cigale Hotel).

    Earlier this week, residents cheered when Ashghal partly completed the construction, opening up traffic lanes from Ramada junction to La Cigale.

    But other work in the area, including the conversion of the Centre Roundabout near MegaMart on Salwa Road into a signalized intersection, will continue until the end of the year.

    In a statement regarding the upcoming Kinana and Garage St. closures, Ashghal said the shops on both streets would remain open throughout the month. It continued:

    Cars will be able to reach the car wash and car repair shops on Qatari Bin Al Fujaah Street through designated accesses through Qatari Bin Al Fujaah Street, whereas cars can park in the back of the shops on Al Kinana Street and reach these shops by walking. Residents of the residential buildings affected by the closure will need to park in the backstreets in the area during the period of the closure, which will be two weeks.

    The public works authority added that the remaining two phases of the C-Ring works – phases two and three – will be completed by the second quarter of next year.

    Bin Mahmoud motorists will also have to contend with another road closure further down Garage Street.

    A short section of Ibn Mahmoud Street, which runs from Al Rayyan Road to Salwa Road just west of Jaidah Flyover, will be closed for two years due to construction of the Doha Metro.

    According to Ashghal, motorists coming from Al Rayyan Road will have to turn left or right at Garage Street and detour around the closure through side streets. Vehicles coming from Salwa Road will be forced to make a U-turn.
