Ashghal belatedly announces diversion at Oryx Roundabout

Oryx diversion

Ashghal

As part of ongoing construction, Ashghal has begun rerouting traffic heading out of West Bay from Ludaihy (Oryx) Roundabout toward Wadi Al-Sail intersection as it converts the R/B into a signaled intersection.

The diversion, which was announced today but put into place yesterday, catching motorists unaware, is expected to last two weeks.

Previously, the public works authority has set a Nov. 15 deadline for the conversion of several roundabouts on and around the Corniche. That means motorists should see some relief at Oryx, Onaiza and Lejbailat roundabouts sometime next month.

In the meantime, commuters who approach Oryx from Barzan intersection are now being directed onto Khalifa Street, heading toward TV R/B. For the past two days, the area has seen heavy congestion.

Those driving down Khalifa St. away from TV R/B and toward Oryx will also be rerouted if they’re trying to go to West Bay. Instead, they will need to go right, travel down to Wadi Al-Sail and u-turn to get through Oryx.

In a statement released around 5pm today, Asghal said:

“However the traffic from Wadi Al-Sail intersections towards Lekhweir (Barzan) intersection will not be affected by this diversion.

All necessary road signs have been installed at all diversions to provide clear directions for commuters. Ashghal has urged all road users to respect traffic rules and regulations for their safety and the safety of others.”

The diversion is expected to end on Nov. 15, Ashghal added.
