Apparently, the world noticed when Qatar’s Bahiya Mansour, one of the country’s first female athletes to compete in the Olympics, carried Qatar’s flag during the opening ceremonies of the games on Friday night:

Qatar joins Saudi Arabia and Brunei in sending women to the competition for the first time, making it the first Olympics in which all of the more than 200 participating countries are represented by female athletes.

Women from five other Arab countries, including Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Bahrain and Morocco also carried their countries’ flags during last night’s ceremonies.

Did you tune in? Thoughts?
