Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera has reportedly been nominated for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, according to a media report.
Though the award jury announced that it had received a total of 231 nominations for this year’s prize, it does not release the list of nominees, saying only that it includes the “usual nominees” and some newcomers, Slate reports.
Because the nomination cannot be confirmed, a spokesman for Al Jazeera declined to comment, but said the channel has been nominated for the award in the past.
Former American president Bill Clinton, WikiLeaks suspect Bradley Manning and Tunisian President Moncef Marzouk have also reportedly been nominated for the award.
This year’s winner will be announced in October.
