Qatar hosted leaders from across the Arab and Islamic world on Monday for the emergency summit in the aftermath of Israel’s attack in Doha.
Dozens of leaders from the Arab and Islamic countries joined Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in condemning Israel’s attack targeting Hamas compound in Doha last week at the emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday.
Describing Israeli actions as “blatant, shameless, and cowardly,” the Amir said his country was determined to preserve sovereignty and confront its attackers.
The summit drew representatives from 57 countries, including key regional and global leaders, who jointly urged for actions beyond condemnation to deter Israel’s repeated violations of international law and the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Here are developments from the summit, as they happened:

What will a successful summit look like for Qatar?
Qatar will hope to kick start the process to create a framework of “regional deterrence umbrella” against Israel from what has already been a “quite significant” summit for the Gulf nation in terms of outpour of support, according to Dr. Andreas Krieg, an academic at King’s College London and Gulf security expert.
“The fact that so many delegations have shown up in Qatar at such short notice shows how grave Israel’s aggression against Qatar has been viewed across the Gulf and the Islamic world,” Krieg said in a statement to Doha News.
“Qatar would like to have a strong collective condemnation of Israel, but more importantly, also meaningful steps towards a regional deterrence umbrella against Israel establishing red lines.”

What’s next for Qatar as mediator after Israeli strikes?
“I don’t think it will affect our mediation efforts,” Rashid Al-Mohanadi, non-resident fellow at Middle East Council on Global Affairs, told Doha News when asked about Qatar’s future as a mediator.

The summit can restrain him if they take serious measures, declaring a boycott on Israel, cancelling normalisation agreement […] and sending a message to the U.S. that an attack on an Arab or Muslim country is an attack on all and that its interest would be affected negatively if Israel is allowed to continue these aggressions.”
