The contract includes the building of a 9,000 ton jacket at the Al Shaheen oil field 80km north of Doha.
China’s Chiwan Sembawang Engineering (CSE) has secured a deal with McDermott International to construct a jacket for the Al Shaheen oil field, as reported by Upstream Online.
The Chinese fabrication yard will build an offshore platform for the Ruya development project, part of the oil field’s expansion 80km from Qatar’s capital Doha.
The contract was signed with Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan, a joint venture between McDermott and China’s State Shipping Corporation.
The Ruya project will see the installation of nine or 10 remote wellhead platforms and debottlenecking pipeline, aiming to increase the Al Shaheen field’s production by 100,000 bpd, bringing total output to 550,000 bpd.
Part of Al Shaheen’s third phase expansion, which began in 1994, the project will span five years, with first oil expected in 2027.
The field is among the world’s largest hydrocarbon reserves and the largest offshore oil producer in Qatar.
