At least two young Qataris were killed in a head-on collision with a truck yesterday near Rawdat Rashid, according to news reports.
There are conflicting reports about whether the third youth involved was either severely injured or killed.
Al Watan identified the deceased as brothers Ghanim and Hamad al-Jiahi. According to Al Sharq, a third young man was also killed on the narrow road, the site of many fatal accidents in Qatar due to its “dangerous” curves and poor lighting.
The accident brings the traffic death toll up to at least 15 this Ramadan. All of the tragedies reported publicly thus far have involved reckless driving or the suspicion of it.
The number of fatalities continues to add up despite a road safety campaign that Qatar has been pushing for months and comes amid declarations by the Traffic Department that such accidents are becoming less common on the roads here.Â
